Contract specs reflect standard CME Group multipliers and are for informational use only — always confirm tick value with your broker. Not financial advice.

Why tick value matters

Tick value is the fixed dollar amount a contract gains or loses per minimum price increment, and it's set by the exchange — not something that changes with the contract's price. It's the conversion factor between "the market moved X" and "my account moved $Y," which makes it the starting point for every other calculation on this site: P&L, position sizing, and risk/reward all reduce to tick math underneath.

Frequently asked

What is a tick in futures trading?

A tick is the smallest price increment a futures contract can move, set by the exchange. Each tick has a fixed dollar value that does not change with the contract's price.

How many ticks are in a point for ES futures?

ES futures move in 0.25-point ticks, so there are 4 ticks per full point, and each point is worth $50 per contract.
