How futures P&L works
Futures don't move in dollars directly — they move in ticks, and each tick has a fixed dollar value set by the exchange. To find your P&L, you convert the price move into ticks, then multiply by the tick value and your contract count. That's exactly what this calculator does, using each contract's standard tick size and tick value.
Going long profits when price rises above your entry; going short profits when price falls below it. Getting the side wrong is one of the most common self-inflicted errors when checking a trade after the fact — this tool handles the sign for you.
